Alaskan Cruise

Day 1 – July 17 2006

Looking forward to another great cruise this time to somewhere a little colder than Tahiti or Hawaii. We’re talkin’ Alaska! Up at 3am and ready to roll We got up and got the last of our stuff together. And thanks to a GREAT dad who was willing to drive us to LAX at 4 in the morning, we got there in plenty of time and our latest adventure started off on the right foot.

The flight from LAX to Seattle went fine. However, we then needed to make a connecting flight in the nightmare that is the Seattle underground tram system. We took the wrong tram (after getting incorrect directions from one of the airport workers) and got completely lost. Luckily, we had some extra time to get to our flight and we made it to Vancouver with no problems.

Once in Vancouver we met with the Princess folks who bussed us over to the ship. We enjoyed the drive to the ship because the bus driver took us on a little short tour of Vancouver and we got to see the steam clock go off and see all the construction going on as they prepare for the 2010 Olympics.

We then arrived at the boarding area. The wait wasn’t bad at all. We were able to check in rather quickly.

We got our cruise cards and we were ready to board!

Here we are getting on board. You can click on that photo for the full version.

We had a quick lunch and then explored the ship a little. We will be doing more exploring and snapping more photos later in the cruise, but here for starters is one of the pool areas.

Time for the muster drill! We met in our designated area and put on the life jackets. It all went pretty quickly (30 minutes or so) and considering how many people were onboard this ship, that’s pretty good.

Not too long after the muster drill we were ready to leave. This is a photo of the dock we were docked at. The cruise ship you see in the distance is Celebrity’s Infinity. It would follow us for most of the night.

The music was playing and everyone was ready to go! Here’s an island we passed as were pulling out of the Vancouver area.

Here’s a nice shot of the Vancouver skyline as we were leaving.

A view of a bridge as we were finally cruising out of Vancouver harbor into open waters. As you can see it was a really nice day.

We went to dinner and then it was time for a show! This show featured the “Coral Princess dancers” and this comedian “Glenn Hirsh”. He will be having a full show tomorrow – we are looking forward to it.

Tomorrow is a day at sea (yeah!) and also formal night. We did have to get up at 3am this morning so we are getting tired early tonight. See you tomorrow!

On to Day 2!
