The ship had these big, beautiful interactive signs throughout the ship. This one was by our elevator – and it shows the activities for the day as well as the port – if you’re in port. These signs interact with the medallions that also open our room doors and allow us to do fun things like order drinks by the pool.
Today’s excursion was Whale Watching with Allen Marine Tours in Auke Bay. They have water jet powered, heated catamarans with great viewing windows. We very much enjoyed this adventure and saw many whales. For me, the highlight was the second half of our tour when we encountered a hump-back whale named Barnacles – and her new baby. The baby did a lot of flips and flipper waving and I think between the four of us, we took several hundred photos and several dozen videos.
Here are some of the highlights -but photos and videos don’t do the experience justice – it was so much fun! And it was great to hear the whole boatload of folks cheer for the little baby or when any of the whales would show off for us.
We took SO many photos and videos – I put together a highlight video of some of the best captures but even after all the editing it’s sill over 9 minutes long! I hope you enjoy it!
I highly recommend Allen Marine Tours for anyone wanting to go whale watching in Juneau, Alaska. The staff on board loved seeing the whales as much as we did and would often call out which side of the boat an animal was present. Our pilot was respectful of the safety of all of us on board and the safety of the animals we were enjoying watching. The scenery around us was breath-taking – all in all it was a wonderful day!
