Approaching Juneau – early morning – such pretty and serene scenery!

Getting closer!
Hello Juneau!
Juneau, Alaska
Beautiful town among the trees!
Signage aboard

The ship had these big, beautiful interactive signs throughout the ship. This one was by our elevator – and it shows the activities for the day as well as the port – if you’re in port. These signs interact with the medallions that also open our room doors and allow us to do fun things like order drinks by the pool.

Looks like a yummy place for lunch!
Heading out for our Whale Watching excursion…

Today’s excursion was Whale Watching with Allen Marine Tours in Auke Bay. They have water jet powered, heated catamarans with great viewing windows. We very much enjoyed this adventure and saw many whales. For me, the highlight was the second half of our tour when we encountered a hump-back whale named Barnacles – and her new baby. The baby did a lot of flips and flipper waving and I think between the four of us, we took several hundred photos and several dozen videos.

Here are some of the highlights -but photos and videos don’t do the experience justice – it was so much fun! And it was great to hear the whole boatload of folks cheer for the little baby or when any of the whales would show off for us.

On our way out of town..
Beautiful scenery on the way to the Allen Marina
Wetlands – sometimes high-tide floods this area
Some eagles just hanging out!
The air was clear and cool and the area was so beautiful!
Oops got a finger in the photo – this is what the catamarans look like… covered and warm on the inside – and up top fresh-air and somewhat cooler.
Whale! Great photo of a whale feeding.
Mother and baby – our first peek at these two..
Baby splashing
Baby splashing again – he did this more than a dozen times – it was like he was enjoying showing off for us!
Our little friend waving at us!

We took SO many photos and videos – I put together a highlight video of some of the best captures but even after all the editing it’s sill over 9 minutes long! I hope you enjoy it!

Highlights from our Whale Watching excursion in Juneau Alaska – with Allen Marine Tours.

I highly recommend Allen Marine Tours for anyone wanting to go whale watching in Juneau, Alaska. The staff on board loved seeing the whales as much as we did and would often call out which side of the boat an animal was present. Our pilot was respectful of the safety of all of us on board and the safety of the animals we were enjoying watching. The scenery around us was breath-taking – all in all it was a wonderful day!

Back to our ship. Captain Tuvo displayed his friendly waving hand!
After our tour, we walked around town a bit and poked around in some of the shops.
Lots of shops that depend on cruise passengers – I bet they’re glad that cruises are back!
After our wonderful day in port it was time to head toward Skagway, Alaska – as we were sailing our ship made this beautiful scalloped design in our wake.
Another look at the scalloped waves – photos don’t do it justice!
It was a beautiful sunset – although it really didn’t get dark until very late at night.
The snow-capped mountains all around us were so pretty!

On to Skagway, Alaska!
