Day 7 – Decemember 17 – St. George’s, Grenada

Map of Grenada

Grenada is an island nation of the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea. While it has been a French settlement in the past, they declared independence in 1974 and have been working on building their new country. St. George’s is the capitol city of the island.

Arriving in Grenada

Here’s our Blog entry for the day:

Our tour today didn’t start until 11:15 so we got room service! That’s the first time we’ve ever done that on any ship after all these years of cruising. We opened the balcony door between our cabins (shh.. don’t tell anyone. You’re not supposed to) and enjoyed a nice meal as we slowly cruised into port. Then we went to get on our tour “4×4 Open Jeep adventure”. Things didn’t start out all that great with this one because even though we got there in time for the tour we were given the last 2 spots on one jeep and David and Cindy on another jeep and we preferred to be together. We did wind up making it work but there was some confusion and these Jeeps they were stuffing 12 people on were not comfortable that way. Still we had a really great time with our tour guide who was a young local guy who was very nice and knowledgeable and went out of his way to make it a great experience.

We had some photo stops along the way as we drove all around the island. We stopped for a quick snack and at a local church (which was closed) and then we went to a little shack where this man was who helped you get one of the 100+ monkeys in the area on your shoulder for a photo! We did it and it was lots of fun and the monkey was very cool! Then we drove back to the ship for trivia and dinner! Tonight there was a singer and he was entertaining.

A little bit of chaos as the tours were getting started in port
A rainbow as we set out for our tour
This is our tour ‘jeep’ – once we sorted out how many folks could be in a vehicle, we were on our way!
While on our tour, we took a photo break – and there is our ship in the harbor!
Another nice photo of our ship in the harbor. You can see the rain behind it.
Exploring Fort Frederick (it was rainy!)

A lake we visited – it was hard to photograph but there were a lot of fish in there!

After the lake we stopped by a little shack where a man was staying – he works with the local monkeys – and he had some fruit we could feed them so they would come visit – we really liked the monkey and took a lot of photos!

On the way back, our guide stopped so we could take a nice photo of our ship – then we realized it wasn’t our ship! As we were touring, another ship had arrived!

David and Cindy at the Grenada sign – Susan took this and cut off half the letters because the glare was too bad (sorry!)

Susan with our ship behind her – it looked so tiny compared to the Britannia that parked next to her!
Another lovely sunset
The camera didn’t really capture this very well – the moon was so pretty in the break of the clouds

Tomorrow we have an early tour in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago!
