Glacier Bay National Park

June 9, 2022

This was a very relaxing and casual day gliding through the water in Glacier Bay. The four of us had a great time taking in the sights and playing Tri-ominos and Cribbage together. This was even more fun with the Medallion service – we could order sodas or drinks or snacks whenever we wanted and the app would lead the waiter straight to our table where we were playing!

Icebergs began to appear after a while…this one had quite a gathering of birds onboard!
Some wildlife began to appear. Here are Sea lions on the ice.
Mountain goats on the hills as we sailed by.
Two cruise-ships a day are allowed into the park. We passed by the Encore as we were heading toward the Margerie Glacier – the star attraction of the day. (funny story – Adam actually found out a co-worker was on that ship!)
We could tell we were getting closer to the glacier as more and more ice started appearing.

Photos do not do justice for the area and especially the Glacier. But it’s hard to not try!

Our captain ‘parked’ the ship in front of the glacier and allowed us to just take in the grandeur – it’s so amazing to hear the thunder of the ice as it cracks and the booming sound it makes as the ice falls into the ocean. David was lucky enough to capture some of these on video!

Duck hiding time! After we left the glacier – we sailed back out of Glacier Bay National Park – and we took this opportunity to hide some of our “Cruisin Ducks” and walk around the ship a bit.

Our onboard nature expert told us that we would be sailing through “Snow Pass” in the afternoon an that the conditions were right for us to see whales and wildlife. Well, we caught a glimpse of a whale far off from the ship and not much else – but it was beautiful going through Snow Pass.

More yummy dessert!

We played some onboard games and saw a show – and finished our relaxing day.

On to College Fjord!
