Nassau, Bahamas

January 5, 2024 – Nassau, Bahamas – our last port!

Nassau is the capital and largest city of The Bahamas. It is located on the island of New Providence, which had a population of 246,329 in 2010, or just over 70% of the entire population of The Bahamas. As of April 2023, the preliminary results of the 2022 census of the Bahamas reported a population of 296,522 for New Providence, 74.26% of the country’s population. Nassau is commonly defined as a primate city, dwarfing all other towns in the country. It is the centre of commerce, education, law, administration, and media of the country.

Today’s tour is a visit to a resort called Blue Lagoon Island. We would also be able to have an up-close visit with a sea-lion. (We could have chose dolphins or sea lions).

We had almost exclusive use of the resort, there were no other cruise ships in port that day. Even though it was a bit commercial, we really enjoyed our time there – the animal handlers seemed to really care about the animals and take good care of them.

Here comes our pilot boat!

Awaiting our tour

Even though we were not visiting with the dolphins, we could still see them from nearby and got some cool photos!

We relaxed at the beach area while we awaited our turn to see the sea lion

Next we got to spend about 30 mins with the sea lion – learning about her, seeing her tricks and we got to pet her and have our photos taken with her.

They had a cool oversized chair we all got our photos on…

Then it was time to head back to port.

It was a nice port to end our cruise on – one more night on board and then we will arrive in Miami for our disembarking and trips home.
