Ketchikan Alaska (after a day at sea)

June 5, 2022

First day of our cruise was a relaxing day at sea. We met up with David and Cindy for breakfast – and we explored the ship together – and we got to enjoy the benefits of the Princess Medallion – it was really cool when it worked correctly – we could open the application and order a drink – and it would be brought to us wherever we were!

We don’t usually have that many alcoholic drinks, but we had the drink package and it was so much fun to order them with the app – we had more than we ever had before.

We were delighted to learn that our favorite Princess Captain, Michele Tuvo was our captain for the cruise. We call him “Captain Bye-bye” because he ends his ship-wide announcements with a lighthearted “Bye-Bye!” He’s very friendly and always strives to bring a smile to people’s faces!

We didn’t take many photos onboard – but here are some photos of our yummy desserts from dinner!

I think the last time that Adam and I (Susan) were in Ketchikan, it was fairly warm. This time we had cloudy weather and rain off and on but it was not very cold so we didn’t have to bundle up. We had an early excursion called “Wilderness Exploration and Crab Feast” centered at George Inlet Lodge. Adam and I have done this excursion before with our son Kevin – and loved it, so we were happy to return with David and Cindy!

Once we arrived at George Inlet Lodge – we immediately were led to a tour-boat where we were treated to a guided tour of the area – including some of the history of the area and descriptions of wildlife we might see.

Three crabs inside. Two males and a small female.
Our guide showing us the details of the crab

Our guide explained how to measure the crabs and how to determine males from females. They put the females back. to help keep the populations up.

After our guide talked about crabs – he took some of us outside to see bald eagles.

Here’s a cool video that David took that shows a Bald Eagle scooping up a fish.

Here’s another video of the Eagles..

We are participating in “Cruising Ducks” (check it out online if you’re not familiar with it) – David found the first duck of the cruise!

On to Juneau!
