Today we spent the day in Glacier Bay National Park.
We had terrific weather again, and were surrounded by beauty, on all sides of the ship. The highlight of the day was when the Captain (loved our Captain!) manuvered the ship up close to a glacier that was a mile across… and let us just experience the magic of the glacier.
For those who have never been near a glacier, you may not know, but they are noisy! As the ice cracks and moves, it creates a large booming sound – then again as the large ice chunks fall into the water. It never gets old to me! Our captain ‘parked’ next to the glacier, and our side of the ship was facing it first. We were able to stand on our balcony, and had a great view of the glacier. Once our turn was over, and the Captain rotated the ship so the other side of the ship had a view – we went topside to continue viewing it.
We took dozens of photos and some of them are below. It was hard to capture the glacier ‘calving’ but we were successful a few times. The photos don’t really do it justice – it was a really wonderful experience!
